PICTURES SOLD
SIX FOR COLLECTION Pictures valued at .£284 have been purchased at the exhibition of the Auckland Society of Arts, new being held at the gallery in Kitchener Street. 4 Six of the pictures have * been bought by the Auckland City Council for the permanent collection in the Art Gallery. These are:—“Evening, Valley Oureke, Morocco,’’ by J. Weeks: “Devonshire Farm Buidings,” by G. Ball: "Winter Sunshine. Italy.” by J. Weeks: “The Big Stack.” by Pascoe Redwood: “Night, Cpllins Street. Melbourne.” by Pascoe Redwood: and “The Park,” by Olive Spencer Bower. Bast evening the art union was drawn and pictures valued at £135 10s were awarded as prizes, of which there were 15. Mrs. C. V. Houghton won the first prize. The exhibition, which is the best held in Auckland for many years, is drawing a record attendance, and will be open for some weeks to come. Four more pictures, to the value of £ 25 4s. were sold last evening and this morning. These were: —“English Village” (£7 7s), G. Ball: “A Peaceful Valiev” (£6 Cs), Ida Eise; “Fishing Boats'” (£2 2s), Pascoe Redwood: “Afternoon Light” <£9 9s), Ida Eise.
