“VIOLET FAIR”
VICTORIA LEAGUE GIRLS’ COMMITTEE SALE OF WORK OPENED BY LADY BLEDISLOE A very successful “Violet Fair” was organised by the Girls’ Committee of the Victoria League in the league rooms on Friday afternoon. The function was opened by her Excellency Lady Bledisloe and during the afternoon each stall did a very brisk trade. Aliss Alow bray, president of the league, welcomed Lady Bledisloe, wbv was accompanied by Airs. A. T. Bathurst. In declaring the sale of work open her Excellency said she was very pleased to have the opportunity of showing her practical interest in the Victoria League. “There is no other branch of it that does better and more useful work than the girls’ branch,’* she said. “I congratulate them on their many and varied activities by which they bring joy and pleasure into so many lives. They emphasise the great truth of the duty of happiness as well as the happines of duty.” The stalls were in charge of the following;—Cakes, Alisses Kent, Guthrie, Heather, Shepherd, Steele, Scarborough. Bell. R. Paterson and Short; work stall. Alisses Rendell, Bruce, Hay, Hewitt, R. Thompson, Locke and Ogrilvie; sweets, Airs. C. Ewen, Mrs. Watson, Alisses AlcLachlan, L>- I>® Renzy, Ballantyne, R. King, M. Hutchinson, Wiseman and Ovens; afternoon tea. Alisses Cerutty, At. AlcCulloch, X. St. Clair "Whyte. K. Aitkin, Heather, J. Nairn, AT. Wooleott, C. Pragnall. Bishop. Collins, Aforley, White, AI. Clarke and T. Rowntree; produce. Luly Ballantyne. R. Waterhouse, X. Abbott, AI. Cox, S. Davis and L. de Boissiere.
