PERSONAL. —Captain B. G. Hoddinott, who has been on holiday leave at Auckland, has taken temporary command of the Waimea, relieving Captain G. \V, Evans for instructions.
Captain A. W. Creese, of the Kefeerangu, has taken command of the Talune, relieving Captain A. Murray for holidays.
MAHIA CLEARED MONTEVIDEO.— The Shaw, Savill and Albion steamer Mahia, which left Auckland for London on May 8, is reported to have cleared Montevideo on Thursday.
THE GOLDEN CLOUD. —The American steamer Golden Cloud was dispatched for Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin and New Plymouth on Saturday evening in continuation of lier voyage from Pacific Coast ports.
THE WAITE MATA. —The Union Company’s trans-Padtic steamer Waitemara was to leave Los Angeles yesterday with cargo from Pacific Coast ports for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Melbourne and Sydney. She is due at Auckland on June 24.
THE PORT AUCKLAND.—In continuation of her voyage from Wellington to London the Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamer Port Auckland cleared Montevideo on Friday. She was dispatched from Wellington on May 8.
FIRING PRACTICE IN GULF. —The Naval Department advises mariners and others concerned that firing practice will be carried out by H.M.S. Dunedin in the Hauraki Gulf during the period from June 6 to June 3.4. The itinerary of fii'— ing is as follows:—June 9, 1.15 p.m. and 5.30 p.m.; June 13. at 10.30 a.m.; June 13, at 3 0 a.m. and 5.30 p.m.
QUERCUS REPORTS. —A wireless message received by the Farmers’ Co-opera-tive Auctioneering Company from the steamer Quercus states that she expects to arrive at this port from New York on Wednesday, a week behirld schedule. She has a cargo of general merchandise to unload at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin, the local part of whichf will be discharged at Queen’s
THE WESTMORELAND. —Advice has been received that the Federal steamer Westmoreland left Glasgow on May 21 in ballast for New Zealand. She is due at New Plymouth on June 2S, and will commence loading for London ard West Coast ports. She will subsequentiv load at Opua, Auckland, Gisborne, Napier and Wellington. The vessel is scheduled to clear Wellington finally on July 19 for London, Avonmouth, Liverpool, Manchester and Glasgow, via Panama Canal. IVLINGTON COURT WITH SUGAR.— The steamer Ilvington Court arrived in port at noon yesterday’ from Cuba with 7,000 tons of raw' sugar for discharge at Chelsea. The ship sailed from Poi't Tarafa, Havana, on April 27, clearing Panama on May 5. Fair weather was experienced on the voyage, except for the last week, when the vessel was delayed by about two days owing to rough westerly weather. After discharge of her sugar, the Ilvington Court sails for Ocean Island to load phosphates for Australia.

BENEDICK WITH BENZINE. The tanker Benedick arrived here from Los Angeles last night with 9,000 tons of bulk benzine for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Melbourne and Sydnev. She is under charter to the Sluell Oil' Company. which hopes to dispatch her on Wednesday afternoon for Wellington. The vessel left Los Angeles on May 6 and experienced good weather until the last week of her voyage, when she encountered strong sou’-westerly head winds and rough seas.

CANADIAN CONQUEROR SAILING. The Canadian National steamer Canadian Conqueror, which is completing her loading at King’s Wharf, is to sail for New York, Boston and Montreal at daybreak on Wednesday. THE TAHITI.-T Tahiti was due at Wellington at noon th:> day from San Francisco, according to her radio advice. She is scheduled to resume her voyage to Sydney at 11 *>.m. on Wednesday. TOFUA LEAVES APIA. —The Union Company’s Island steamer Tofua left Apia fur Suva and Auckland at four o’clock on Friday afternoon The vessel is due at Suva tomorrow and she is to sail on Thursday. She will arrive at Auckland next Monday. PUKEKO FOR ALL PORTS. —The local agents, Watkin and Walls, Ltd., advise that the Richardson steamer Pukeko will take cargo for Tokomaru and Tolaga Bays, Port Awanui, Gisborne. Hicks Bay, Waikokopu, Napier and Wairoa. She arrives from Portland at 6 p.m. today and sails at noon on Wednesday. THE GOLDEN WEST. —With lumber, case oil and general cargo from Pacific Coast ports the Oceanic and Oriental Navigation Company’s steamer Golden West was scheduled to clear Los Angeles on Saturday for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. She is due at Auckland on June 27. Henderson and Macfarlane, Limited, is the local agent. KAITUNA DUE 6 A.M. —En route from New Plymouth to Auckland to complete discharge of lier Australian cargo, the Union Company’s steamer Kaituna has reported by radio that she expects to arrive here at 6 o’clock tomorrow morning. The vessel has been allotted a berth at Prince’s Wharf, and after she lias finished unloading proceeds to Portland to load cement for 'Wellington and Lyttelton. MAUNGANUI DUE 6 A.M. —lnward bound from Sydney, the intercolonial steamer Maunganui has sent radio advice that she expects to arrive in the stream here at 6 o’clock tomorrow morning. After pratique has been granted the vessel will berth at Queen’s Wharf to land her passengers, mails and cargo. She is scheduled to sail on her return trip to Sydney at 3 p.m. on Friday. DAGFRED DUE. —The first vessel to sail in the North Pacific Australia Line's new service to New Zealand from the Pacific Coast, the Norwegigan motorship Dagfred, is expected ro reach Auckland tomorrow morning from Los Angeles. From here she proceeds to Australian ports to complete discharge of her cargo of general merchandise. Palgety and Co., Ltd., is her local agent. She is to berth at King's Wharf.
KENT LATER. —The New Zealand Shipping Company has received a further wireless message from the Federal steamer Kent stating that she now expects to arrive at this port from Liverpol on Thursday forenoon. The vessel has a cargo of general merchandise from West Coast United Kingdom ports for unloading at Auckland. Wellington. Lyttelton, Port Chalmers and Bluff. She* is to berth at Queen’s Wharf.
TAINUI DUE DAYBREAK. —Further radio advice received by A. S. Paterson a,nd Co., Ltd., from the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s liner Tainui inward bound from London and Southampton, states that she does not now expect to arrive in the stream here until daybreak tomorrow. The vessel has 100 passei - gers and also mails for New Zealand, and a cargo of general merchandise for discharge here and at Wellington. After pratique has been granted the Tainui is to berth at Prince’s Wharf.
A NOTEWORTHY RECORD.— A noteworthy record of performance is that « f the Shaw. Savill and Albion Compa:i v’s cargo liner Taranaki, which left Wellington »>n Saturday afternoon for London. This ship, which is one of the quartet of sister ships specially built tc, r the New Zealand trade, started on her maiden voyage from England on Mav lx, 1928. On May 15 last, when the T.mnaki arrived at New Plymouth from lownsville, to start loading for the present Homeward voyage, she had covered in barely two years 130,500 miles at sea. had •.•ailed at 87 ports, and had carried nine full cargoes, consisting of general hai i?*' Se on, ward and primary produce Homeward in the New Zealand and Australian trade with Britain.
