21ST BIRTHDAY

EDENDALE SCHOOL CELEBRATES A tribute to the work done by the committee and the high standard of efficiency attained by the school, was paid by Mr. G. C. Munns. M.P., when speaking at the twenty-first anniversary of the Edendale School on Saturday. Mr. Munns especially complimented the work done by the retiring headmaster, Mr. C. A. Semadeni, and said that it was largely to his competent administration that the school owed its present position. "I congratulate the school,” said Mr. L. E. Rhodes, Mayor of Mount Albert, “upon its splendid record of progress. The school started with a roll of approximately 200 and it has grown to 800, and this is largely the work of Mr. Semadeni, who after 21 years of service is retiring. "We are all sorry to see him leave.” A presentation of a gold watch and chain and a cheque, on behalf of the ex-pupils and parents, was made by Mr. John Carrie, chairman of the school committee. Mr. Carrie referred to the long service of Mr. Semadeni and said if was only necessary to hear comments made by former pupils and teachers to realise the high regard in which he was held.
