ATTACK ON PAY-LAUNCH AT SHANGHAI
ONE KILLED—OTHERS INJURED
United P.A. —By Telegraph—Copyright Reed. 9.5 a.m. SHANGHAI, Friday. A murderous piratbs’ attack occurred on the Shanghai waterfront. John Harder and James Irvine were critically wounded, a Chinese clerk was killed, and two others were .dangerously wounded. Harder and Irvine were foreign members of the Whangpoo Conservancy Board, and were engaged in issuing wages from a small launch when another launch, containing seven armed men, steamed alongside. The pirates opened fire and escaped with about £5,400. Two British soldiers volunteered blood transfusions in the hope of saving the victims.
