MOTOR REGISTRATIONS
LAST-MINUTE RUSH THIS MORNING NEW PLATES TOMORROW Motorists desirous of using their cars over the week-end, and who had not taken the precautions of renewing their licences and obtaining new number-plates, attended in hundreds at the Wellesley Street Post Office this morning. Up till Friday evening there still i remained about 10,000 motorists vrto had not complied with the regulation*, but judging by the numbers who were put through this morning, this total must now be considerably diminished. The registration is being carrit*d out in the rear portion of the building, where a large staff of clerks was employed this morning at high pressure The parcels office was packed with people obtaining and filling in forms, j This completed, they took their plac* in a queue which stretched round The corner of the building for some distance down Lome Street. Police ( constables were stationed outside and | also inside the building, to control the i stream of people continually passing | in and out. Acres* the road the Auckland Automobile Association had established an information bureau, where assistance i was provided in filling in the fonas I a service greatly appreciated by mero- ! bers. Today was the last day in which the blue and white registration plates issued last year could be used. Tomorrow the new black and white plates must be attached, and all using ! the old plates will be liable to prosecution. The chief traffic inspector. Mr. G. Hogan, has stated that no immediate action would be ta.<en against those who had not renewed their licences, but that all motorists would be well advised to renew them before June 7
