LONE-CALL IN WOODS IS TAKEN FOR WILD BEASTS FRENCH POLICE TURN OUT PARIS, May 23. I Enormous excitement vas caused | in the Agen district recently by reports that wild animals, variously described as leopards, lions, and hyenas, ; seen in the woods, had possibly oscaped from a, circus. Hunts were I organised, without avail. Thousands 1 of visitors arrived, and journalists, i photographers, and cinema operators j assembled. The police officers threatened' to resign owing to their being called up all night to stalk animals which they were unable to find. It is now reported that the whole I story originated with two lovers, who imitated the hyena’s call as a signal when they were meeting in the woods.
