CARGO SHIP ADRIFT
TUG SENT OUT TO BRING JAPANESE VESSEL IN BROKEN TAIL SHAFT Reed. 10.5 a.m. TOKYO, Thurs. The Japanese cargo vessel Kyokkoh Maru is adrift 40 miles off Newcastle with a broken tailshaft. A tug has been sent to her assistance, and is expected to take her- in tow tonight. A message from Sydney today says the tug St. Claves took the drifting Kyokkoh Maru in tow last night and arrived at Sydney Heads this morning. Sea conditions are smooth. The vessel was drifting in a north-westerly direction when found by the tug. The Japanese steamer Kyokkoh, of 6,783 tons, left Yokohama* on April 30 for Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. The vessel left Nagasaki on May 2, Kobe on May 0 and Miilce three days later. Captain Sasada is her commander.
