INCREASED PETROL TAX

SUPPORT AT FRANKLIN Froiti Oar Own Correspondent PUKEKOHE, Wednesday. Support was forthcoming at today’s meeting of the Franklin County Couneil for an increase in the petroltax. Advising that a resolution had been passed urging the Government to increase the petrol-tax to such a figure which would enable it to completely finance all future maintenance and construction costs on all primary highways in a permanent manner, the Whakatane, Rotorua, Tauranga and Opotiki County Councils solicited the council's support. While not agreeing with all the principles, the council favoured an increase in this form of taxation.
