LOGS ADRIFT IN GULF

DANGER TO SHIPPING Shipping is warned that in the vicinity of Tiri there is danger from logs which broke adrift on Tuesday when a tow-rope parted in the VTliangaparaoa passage. When the Lady Eva was rounding Whangaparaoa Peninsula in a southwesterly gale, a squall struck the boat and its raft of logs from Whangarei. Recovery of the logs was impossible in the heavy sea, as the raft rapidly disintegrated, and Is now a considerable menace to shipping in the Hauraki Gulf. It Is hoped to recover the timber when tße sea moderates. The Lady Eva, a large launch, sheltered on the north-east side of the heads, and the logs were carried toward the Kawau-Barrier passage.
