When the Lady Eva was rounding Whangaparaoa Peninsula in a southwesterly gale, a squall struck the boat and its raft of logs from Whangarei. Recovery of the logs was impossible in the heavy sea, as the raft rapidly disintegrated, and Is now a considerable menace to shipping in the Hauraki Gulf.
