GREATEST QUESTION

REV. WALTER BENTLEY’S MISSION At tlie continuation of his mission services in St. Matthew’s • Church the Rev. Walter Bentley last evening answered the greatest question in the world. “The answer is a simple one,” he said. ‘‘Who was the greatest man in the world? Jesus Christ. This greatest question was: ‘What think ye of Me?’ He frequently asked it of His followers and His opponents, and, when St. Peter replied, ‘Thou art the Christ, the Son of the Living God/ the heart of Jesus was lifted up for mankind. St. Peter had recognised mankind’s God and on this confession ‘I will build My Church and the gateis> of Hell shall not prevail against it.’ And here it is today as proof. SETTLED FOR ALL TIME “On the deity of Christ rests everything. for if He was not God we are idolators. We have no real religion and our hope of immortality is a baseless dream. John the Baptist, who had claimed Him as such, sent his disciples to find out for themselves, and Christ’s answer settled the problem for all time. He pointed to His works to prove who He was. Let us examine them. The blind receive their sight, not only then but now spiritually. He performed the physical miracles not only for the benefit of those helped, but to teach that His power would continue to open the eyes of the spiritually blind for all time. The progress of the world since His day is proof of His assertion. The lame walk. Amid so many gods and the mazes of philosophy man then was so lame spiritually that he stumbled but He has given us His crutch and we can walk. The lepers are cleansed. Sin in the Bible is regarded as the leprosy of the soui. When we see people cleansed from their sins by His power we see it is

as true toda.y spiritually as then i’ was physically.

“The deaf hear. The Homan matrons could sit in the arena and see innocent people butchered. Why? Because they were deaf and could not hear His voice in their souls. The dead are raised up. Not true today physically, but certainly spiritually. You see people raised from the depths of degradation and misery to new hope and life.”

Mr. Bentley will preach on life after death this evening.
