Popularity Campaign

RACE OFFICIALLY STARTED

INTEREST IN CONTEST INCREASING DAILY

Yesterday we published the first tally of votes in The Sun’s Great Prize Competition. Hundreds of readers all over Auckland Province are entering the race and working for their share in the rewards offered. A glance at the list will show that no contestant has gained anything in the nature of a strong lead. One •thing apparent about the votes is the fact that many of the contestants who have been nominated are sitting back and letting friends put forth all the effort. lit would appear that contestants hardly seem to realise that the offer of such fine prizes is genuine. Apparently they cannot see that any newspaper could possibly give away such costly and beautiful prizes as have been offered by The Sun. This magnificent array of prizes has been purchased and they are now all on display, ready to be delivered to the winners. By that we mean —the actual prizes can be seen at the stores of the merchants from whom they are purchased. The prize motor-cars are on display in the windows of the motor dealers, and the other prizes are all on display ready to be given away. Look over the standing of contestants as published yesterday. Make up your mind what prize you would like best, then enter and win it. If you have not already received a receipt book, come in and get one immediately. Then begin calling on your friends and securing subscriptions, and thereby amassing votes. Votes will win the prize and nothing else.

Interest in the race will increase from now on. Get in with your first subscription immediately if you have not already done so. The reward which goes with effort may be won by someone whose name is already entered, or some new nominee yet to enter, may carry away the big prize. Every- day new nominations are pouring into the office of the Campaign Department and on Saturday another list will appear in the paper showing the new tally. If you have not already entered in the race, decide to do so today-. The choice of nearly

50 prizes is yours for the asking. It would surprise you how really sporting a proposition this is once you enter.

The campaign organisation is very willing to give any information to contestants desiring to enter. One important thing each contestant should do is to communicate immediately with the Campaign Manager and talk over plans for the campaign. There is a staff of special representatives who will be glad to call personally on any contestant who cannot come to the office. Therefore, if you want someone to call and explain to you, merely telephone or write the Campaign Manager and request someone to come and interview you. There is no cost or any obligation on the part of the contestant for such interview. If you want to win, .this is your opportunity. Remember the Great Bonus Offer at this time as the important factor of the campaign. For ever total of £ 10 of subscription money that each contestant sends in before June 21, a special bonus of 500,000 votes will be given. This does not mean that the contestant must send in a total of £lO at one time; merely send in your subscriptions as fast as received by you from your friends, and when the campaign records show that you have

sent in a total of £lO, a special ballot for 500,000 votes will be issued. This may be repeated, just as many times as contestants secure £lO in subscription money up to June 21. PHOTOGRAPHS WANTED As the campaign is just getting under way, the public is very desirous of knowing who the contestants are. Therefore, the Campaign Manager desires each active contestant to send in a photograph as quickly as possible. If you have some votes in the race, and you wish your friends to know that you are out to win, send in your photograph and we will run it with a little story abour your Campaign Organisation. An arrangement has been made with Tornquist Portrait Studio for photographs to be taken of active contestants, who wish it. One of the contestants in The Sun’s Great Popularity Campaign is Mr. E. de la Mare, manager of Used Cars, Ltd., Newmarket.

Mr. de la Mare led the first published list for Auckland as it appeared in yesterday’s paper. He is very well known and has a host of friends who are anxious to see him a winner of one of the big prizes in this competition. Mr. de la Mare says:—“l think The Sun’s campaign a great idea. It is a sporting proposition Ln_ which any man or woman with any sporting blood will enjoy competing. I am out to win one of the big prizes and I look forward to a lot of fun in doing it.”
