SPEEDY WAR PLANE

FASTEST FIGHTER YET NOW UNDER TEST MAH. AIRCRAFT BUILDING LONDON, Tuesday. A monoplane flying-boat with sleeping berths for 50 passengers inside the wings is being built in the south of England. It will be the largest and heaviest ever built in Britain and, according to the “Daily News,” will be used to test the possibility of an All Red route between Britain and the Dominions. The machine will be able to fly nonstop from London to Malta. Royal Air Force officials have completed tests of a new interceptor tighter—the fastest war airplane in the world. It is called the HawkerHornet, and is capable of flying at a speed of 190 miles an hour. It can reach high altitudes and climb 20,000 ft in a few minutes. There is a growing demand for an air port in the centre of London. The Air .Ministry, in conjunction with the London County Council, is considering possible sites in Hyde Park, Regents Park and Battersea Park. It is pointed out that the distance of Croydon from London adds 40 minutes to the air service to and from the Continent.
