In the Market Place

EGGS ARE DEARER

FURTHER ADVANCE TODAY Fresh eggs have never before been so scarce for 50 long a period and prices in the City M arkets showed a still further advance today, first quality special grade hen eggs now selling at 3s 3d a dozen. This is due te weather conditions, the older fowls having suddenly ceased to lay and pullets being late in coming into producFruit generally was dull or sale in the markets today. Apples are still selling at low prices, a few Delicious apples taken from cold storage failing to realise their value. Oranges are dull and prices low. Prices for both hothouse and outdoor local tomatoes fell considerably late on Friday. 1 There will be no shipment of fruit from Sydney this week and grapes taken from cold storage already show an advance. Prices for ripe banana's were firmer yesterday. Other lines remain the same as last week. The market is over supplied with cabbage, lettuce and celery, and supplies of all other vegetables in season are heavy. The demand throughout is good. Supplies of beans fell on Tuesday of last week, but have come on again, although of a somewhat poorer quality. More local kumeras than usual at this time of the year are offering. Supplies are usually ended by the middle of May, when kumeras have to be brought to the City from Tauranga.
