BUILD OWN TRAMS?
CARPENTERS MAKE SUGGESTION
Should the Transport Board build all its own trams and buses?
This step was urged by the secretary of the Amalgamated Society' of Carpenters and Joiners in a. letter received at the board’s meeting today*, supporting a suggestion made by' Mr. M. J. Coyle at the previous meeting of the Transport Board. Mr. E. IT. Potter said that manufacturers should be given a chance to compete.
Mr. E. .T. Phelan said he hoped the day would come when all the board’s rolling-stock would be built at its own factory'.
I think the board should have some definite policy' in connection with the building of trams and buses at the workshops,” said Mr. M. J. Coy'le. Mr. J. A. C. Allum, chairman, moved that the union be advised that the board was at present building five more tram bodies at the board’s workshops. The motion was carried.
