POWER FOR SILVERDALE
MR. COATES SUPPORTS PLEA FOR RETICULATION WAITEMATA BOARD'S VIEW In support of an application for the ! reticulation of the Silverdale district j with electric power, the Right Hon. J. G. Coates wrote to the AVaitemata Electric-Power Board today. Mr. Coates had been approached by Mr.. W.. F. Green, a resident of the area, with the request that he should back the proposal. "I shall be glad if you can render some assistance, and I hope the board can see its way to reticulate the area at an early date,” Mr. Coates said. The chairman, Mr. G. Trevithick, recalled that Mr. Green's letter to the Leader of the Opposition was identical with one Mr. Green had written to the board a month ago. Opposing the chairman’s motion that the letter be referred to the board in committee, Mr. AV. B. Barlow complained that too many small matters were being taken in committee. “NOTHING TO HIDE” The Chairman: There is nothing to hide. I only thought that members would have a freer discussion. In a report upon the reticulation the engineer, Mr. F. J. H. Wilson, said he had called upon prospective consumers this month and noted their re- ; quirements. He assessed the likely j revenue mt £727. The capital cost of j doing the work he e.stimated at £6,250. i Guarantees of £1,250 would be re- ] quired. Mr. Barlow: It is quite obvious it is not going to pay us to go there. The Chairman: There is no argument about it, but we must give the i request every chance. The board is dealing with the matter in committee.
