STRAND’S NEXT PICTURE
“CASE OF SERGEANT GRISCHA” Herbert Brenon’s production of “The Case of Sergeant Grischa,” with Ches - ter Morris and Betty Compson, coming on Friday to the Strand Theatre, is an attraction ranking in importance with such productions as “Rio Rita,” “Hit the Deck,” and “Radio Revels,” according to a recent announcement by Joseph L. Schnitzer, president of Radio Pictures. The selection of Chester Morris for tho role of Grischa followed months of diligent search by Radio officials. Regarded in film circles are one of the greatest masculine roles of the screen, tho part of Grischa was also difficult to cast. Scores of leading players were given screen and voice tests before the final choice was made. Alec B. Francis and Gustav von Seyffertitz enact the roles of the rival German generals. Rudolph Schildkraut and Paul McAllister were two other characters selected for “Grischa” cast. GREY LYNN CINEMA “The Awakening,” to be shown at the Grey Lynn Cinema this evening, is a beautiful romantic tale of the love that grew up between an Alsatian girl and a German IJhlan officer in the days immediately before the war. Vilma Banky is the girl. Walter Byron the boy and Louis Wolheim is the girl’s brutal country lover. A full programme of supports will be shown.
