The captain of the French steamer Asia has wirelessed that 112 pilgrims, mostly Moslems, are missing. It is feared all have perished. He stated the crew was unable to get all the pilgrims to the boats. Those* who were left dropped to their knees on the deck and remained praying till overwhelmed by the flames. A message from Jeddah yesetrday said a fire suddenly broke out on board a French steamer, the Asia, on which 1,500 pilgrims had embarked for southern Rea Sea ports. The vessel had not left the harbour. The flames could not be controlled and the steamer was unapproachable.
