Mr. Justice Dethridge, sitting as a Royal Commission, today continued the inquiry into the allegation of Mr. Roland F. Green, Country Party member of the Federal House of Representatives for Richmond, for attempted bribery involving the members of the Public Accounts Committee. The charge arose out of a claim by the owners of A Class broadcasting stations for heavy compensation from the Commonwealth Government. Major W. T. Conder, formerly manager of 3LO broadcasting station, Melbourne, denied Mr. Green’s allegation that he had attempted to bribe him. Witness declared that Mr. Green had sought his company, invited him. to lunch and asked him for free theatre tickets. NO WISH TO BE RUDE Cross-examined, Major Conder said he did not suggest that Mr. Green went about trying to obtain a bribe as the price of his vote in favour of the claim for compensation. His Honour: But compared with the other members of the Public Accounts Committee Mr. Green rather thrust himself upon you? Witness; Yes. His Honour: Nevertheless you did not discourage his felicitations? Witness: No. I would have had to be rude to him, and 1 did not want to be the one to turn against him.
