TAKAPUNA DOCTOR DIES
COUSIN OF NOTED MEN IN ENGLAND DEATH ON THURSDAY A cousin of Mr. Stanley Baldwin and of Mr. Rudyard Kipling and a nephew of the artists, Sir Edward Poynter and Sir Edward BurneJones. Dr. George Pearce Baldwin, of Takapuna, died on Thursday. Mr. Baldwin’s father, the two artists and Mr. Lockwood Kipling, father of tho author, married four daughters of the Rev. George Macdonald, a Wesleyan minister of Wolverhampton. Dr. Baldwin, who was the son of a Staffordshire ironmaster, had entered a private hospital only a week ago. He was at one time medical superintendent of the Auckland Hospital, and for several years he was resident medical officer under the New Zealand Government at Rarotonga. Dr. Baldwin was a keen Freemason, a past-master in the craft. During the Great War he was assistantdirector of medical services in Christchurch with the rank -of lieutenantcolonel. He was also a member of the travelling medical board which dealt with appeals under the system of compulsory service.
