Mr. Meredith: Mr. Weaver also : tried to make the test and found dih | Acuity in opening the drawer?—Yes. I But I had no difficulty. i Was the drawer touched up or I greased?—Not to my knowledge. I The witness said so far as he knew 1 no one was aware of his intention to make the test. He agreed, too, there : was nothing to indicate that the furj niture had not previously occupied other positions. This concluded the evidence for the j defence, and Mr. Northcrot't asked per- ! mission to tender portions of the de- ! positions taken in the Bower Court as j evidence. ! ' This was granted by his Honour. The Crown Prosecutor announced his desire to call two witnesses, Mrs. Brown and Dr. Dudding, in rebuttal to testimony given by the accused, but Mr. Northcroft objected to the doctor being recalled. His Honour pointed out that he had the right to recall any witness if he j considered it to be in the interests of justice. Counsel said he desired some evidence as to the quantity of strychnine the bottle contained when the contents were up to the top of the label. The chemist, Mr. Johnson, went into the witness-box and said the bottle would hold 120 grains, fluid [ measure. To the top of the label the .bottle would hold about 20 grains of strychnine, he said. Recalled, Dr. Dudding said that in the conversation with Munn the day of Mrs. Munn's death, no mention was made of the arching of the back during the attack. Mr. Northcroft: Do you say that without hesitation?—lt was not discussed. Did you write down your conversation with Munn? —No. You are relying on your memory?— Yes. After three months?—Yes. Mrs. Brown, who was also recalled, denied having a quarrel with Mrs. Munn over / the children on Friday afternoon. She never saw the children, she said. On the Wednesday, witness said that Mrs. Munn could hardly speak to her. Cross-examined by Mr. Northcroft, Mrs. Brown denied that she saw the children in the bathroom on the Wednesday or the Friday. Witness stated that she saw Munn in the kitchen on Wednesday, but did not see him when she left the house. The hearing was then adjourned until Monday.
