HARSH TREATMENT
JN placing the /trotting filly White Satin on a 3.34 mark at Canterbury Park, the handicapper has been harsh on the youngster. When she won at the Otahuhu meeting off 3.40 her next mark was 3.36, according to the limitation of penalties laid down by the association. Giving away two seconds, her owner took on the 3.52 13-furlong heat in which White Satin finished third in 3.55 3-5. True, the Wrack filly won the Produce Stakes at Dunedin, but as far as a handicap it concerned, no notice could be taken of that effort. As one Southern adjuster placed White Satin on 4.46 in miles recently—which made absolutely no allowance for the extra journey—it appears to be bad business to own a good youngster at the present time.
