POTATO MARKET WEAK
POSITION IN CANTERBURY Press Association CHRISTCHOTtCH, Friday. The market for oats continues strong and prompt. Oats in the South have firmed a shade, A grade Gartons being quoted today at 3s 105 d f.0.b., s.i., for May-Juno delivery. They have been sold at 3s lid f.0.b., s.i. B grade are still very hard to obtain. The supply of oats continues to come from the sicuth, there being little available in Canterbury. Chaff is firm, and the quotation is £7 a ton f.0.b., s.i., which is equivalent to £5 10s a ton on trucks. With very little offering values remain unchanged. Quotations are 5s 8d to 5s 9d fur Tuscan, 5s 9d to 5s lOd for Hunters, and 5s lid to 6s for Pearl, on trucks price in each case. Sales of next season’s wheat continue to be made at 5s 6d for Tuscan and 5s 9d for Hunters. Fowlwheat is scarce and the demand good. The value remains firm at 5s lid f.0.b., s.i., which is equal to 5s 6d on trucks. The prompt position for potatoes continues weak, and there is little demand from Northern ports, as the markets there are fully taxed with supplies. The price to farmers remains at £3 5s a ton on trucks. The forward Position is a shade firmer, and quotations are: June-July, £4 15s; Julykeptember, £5 10s. The onion market, consequent upon crops now being off the paddocks, is Arm, and the values firm at £2 10s a ton on trucks. The demand is good at Present.
