PENALTY FOR LAZINESS
. | A rather important ruling was i sought by an affiliated club at a I recent meeting of the New Zealand Golf Council. The question was, "Does a player incur a penalty of two ! strokes who, playing a stroke round, | plays his ball from within 20 yards of | the hole, and holes out with the ilagstick still in the hole?” After disj cussion the following answer was 1 framed: —"The player- incurs a pen- | alty of two strokes if his ball touches i the flag-stick which is in the hole, i This is under Rule 13 of the special j rules for stroke competitions, and the j only exception would be if he had i played the shot from inside the limits lof a defined hazard. because the 1 ‘green’ is defined by the rules as all j { ground within 20 yards of the hole ex- i | cepting hazards. Decision 167 of the ; Rules of Golf Committee states that I tho object of the rule is to prevent < players putting at the hole without removing the flag-stick.” It is also I quite apparently a penalty for laziness.
