BOXING PURSES

BITTER COMPLAINTS BY i ASSOCIATIONS RULES ALLEGEDLY BROKEN Special to THE SUN WELLINGTON, Thursday. The smaller boxing associations of the Dominion are complaining bitterly at what they term the violation of the rules limiting the size of purses which may* be offered to professional boxers. It is stated that the larger and more wealthy -associations actually place no limit oh the purses they offer, providing they are able to secure the services of the fighter they want. This opinion was expressed recently by Mr. Ben Aislabie, president of the Gisborne Boxing Association and one of the most prominent followers of the squared ring game. Under the rule purses for professional boxers must not exceed £l5O, except in the case of the first fight of an imported boxer. Pete Sarron has been quoted as providing a case in point. It is stated that when he first reached New Zealand his services could have been secured for the amount set down in the rule, but since his engagement by tho leading associations his figure has risen to something in the vicinity of £250. Mr. Aislabie was successful in getting a motion passed by the Gisborne Boxing Association censuring the rulebreakers, a copy of which has been i forwarded to the New Zealand Boxing ; Association.
