PERSONAL.—Mr. P. McCallum has relieved Mr. A. McXab as mate on the Koutunui. Mr. W. McXab has relieved Mr. R. Blundell as engineer on the Koutunui. THE TURAKINA.—in continuation of her voyage from Glasgow to Oamaru, the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Turakina cleared Panama on Saturday. She is due at Oamaru about June 5. THE CORINTH IC. —The Shaw. Savill and Albion liner Corinthic is reported to have reached London from Wellington on Sunday. She sailed from Wellington on April 9. TUTANEKAI'S MOVEMENTS.—The Government steamer Tutanekai is to leave Wellington on her usual tour of inspection of the southern lighthouses on May 27. She will be away for about four weeks. THE KIWITEA.—En route from Adelaide, Melbourne and Hobart, the Kiwitea leaves Lyttelton tomorrow for Wellington, Picton and Auckland. After discharge here she proceeds to New Plymouth to complete unloading. TOFUA AT SUVA.—The Union Company’s Island steamer Tofua. which left Auckland last Saturday for Fiji, Tonga, and Samoa, reached Suva on Wednesday evening. The Tofua is due back at Auckland on June 9.

WARNING TO MASTERS.—The Sec- I rotary of the General Post Office has * received the following message, broad- j cast from Hobart Radio at 1.58 p.m.. on j Tuesday:—"Masters of vessels are hereby j notified that the fog signalling apparatus 1 at the Low Head lighthouse. River i Tamar, is temporarily out of order. - ' , OTAKI LEAVES LAS PALMAS.— Cabled news has been received by the New Zealand Shipping Company that the Otaki left Las Palmas on Tuesday for Avon mouth. The vessel cleared Wellington on April 8 for Montevideo. Rio de Janeiro, London, Avonmouth, Manchester, and Glasgow. /TARANAKI SAILS TOMORROW.— Now at Queen's Wharf loading for London, the Shaw, Savill motor-ship Tara- ] naki is to sail at 5 p.m. tomorrow for j .sapier and Wellington, to complete. She I sails finally from the capital on May 31 j for Southamptan and London, via the , Panama Canal. AORANGI AT VANCOUVER.— The Union Company advises that the motorliner Aorangi, from Sydney and Auckland, arrived at Vancouver on Wednesday. She will leave again next Wednesday for Honolulu, Suva. Auckland, and Sydney, and is due at Auckland on June CARGO FROM MONTREAL.—The Canadian National steamer Canadian Challenger is scheduled to leave Montreal today for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton. Timaru, and Dunedin. She will be the first steamer to leave Montreal instead of Halifax for New Zealand this season, and is due at Auckland early j in July. PORT PIRIE’S LOADING.—The Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamer Port Pirie, which left London on Mav 2 for Suva, Port Chalmers. Lyttelton, and Timaru. is due at Port Chalmers on June 17. She will afterward load in New Zealand for London, and she is due at Auckland about July 12 from New Plymouth. Heather Roberton, Ltd., Is the local agent.
RUAHINE IN PORT.—An arrival Yesterday afternoon was the New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Ruahine from Gisborne. She berthed at Central Wharf to complete her cargo for London. It is hoped to dispatch her at daybreak on Tuesday, taking also passengers and mails, for Southampton and London, via the Panama Canai.
MAUI POMARE DUE TOMORROW.— ' With passengers, mails and fruit from Xiue Island and Apia (Samoa), the Government motor-ship Maui Pomare is . due in port at G o’clock tomorrow night. It is expected that she will leave again on Tuesday afternoon for Lyttelton and ; Wellington to complete discharge of her fruit. She then returns to Auckland and is scheduled to sail from here on her next j trip to Xiue and Apia on June 10.
BELTANA SOLD. —The well-known P. and O. branch service liner Beltana, 11.220 tons gross, built by Cairds at Greenock in 1912 for the Australian service, has been sold to Japanese breakers for about £’27.5«.".', v> i ’ ery at Osaka this month. LEGACY FOR PILOTS. —Under the will of the late Daniel Cole, formerly a Channel pilot, the Corporation of Trinity House. London, has received a bequest of £BOO Mersey Docks and Harbour Board 3£ per cent debenture stock, the income on which will be available to supplement the corporation’s existing charitable funds for the benefit of pilots , and other seafarers and their dependents. 1 As there is never any lack of deservI ing applicants, this bequest will be ■very useful. NEW ZEALAND SYDNEY SERVICE. —The Union Company advises that in j order to provide a relieving steamer in the Wellington—Lyttelton ferry service during the annual surveys of the terry - , steamers Maori and Wahine, it will be i necessary to withdraw the Mamma from ; the New Zealand—Sydney service for a ; short period and the time-table will be j affected as follows: „ ... ' The Marama, at Sydney, May 27, win sail for Wellington on Thursday, May 29, instead of Maunganui. May 30, ana on arrival June 2 will withdraw to relieve the Maori and the Wahine. She will resume from "Wellington on Friday, June 20, for Sydney, thereafter continuing as at present time-tabled. The Maunganui, at Sydney, May will sail on Friday. May 30, for Auckland and return to Sydney as previously timetabled for the Marama. She will leave Sydney on Friday, June 13, for Auckland, continuing as time-tabled. The Tahiti, from Wellington, on June 4, for Sydney and from Sydney on June 12 for Wellington, will provide the connection between ports for passengers and cargo, owing to cancellation of the Maunganui’s sailing from Wellington, June 6, and the Marama’s from Sydney to Wellingon, on Juno 13. SALE OF RIMUTAKA. —The New Zealand Shipping Company’s veteran liner Rimutaka lias been sold after 30 years of service in the United Kingdom - New Zealand run. Built in 1900 by the wellknown shipbuilding firm of W. Denny and Bros., Dumbarton, the Rimutaka has made 61 voyages to New Zealand, and left Wellington on her last trip on February 26. Lloyd’s Register gives her particulai*s as follow: Twin screwy gross tonnage, 8,997 tons; length, 457.7 feet; beam, 55.2 feet; draught, 30. S feet. When she was launched 30 years ago her tonnage was 7,700, but since then alterations have been made which account fer the increase of about 1,200 tons. A remarkable thing is that the old liner maintained to the last the same speed as she was built for —namely, 12 knots. This is a record of which the builders of her engines, Messrs. Denny and Bros., have reason to be proud. In the early days the Rimutaka voyaged to and from New Zealand round the Cape of Good Hope, calling at one or two Australian ports. Her course of later years has been via the Panama Canal. During the Great War the Rimutaka carried colonial troops, and she also made two trips to China for food supplies. The first commander of the ship was Captain Greenstreet, now retired. He was fohowed by Captain F. A. Hemming, also retired, who was master for IS years, and his successor was Captain Barnett. Captain C. B. Lamb, her last commander, had only been on the ship for two voyages to New Zealand.
