EX-SERVICEMEN MEET
WORK OF THE ASSOCIATION An invitation to ex-servicemen to attend a special service at St. Matthew’s Church on Sunday. June 1. was received at a meeting of the executive of the Returned Soldiers’ Association last evening from Canon Grant Co wen. An offer to form a guard of honour for tho Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, and Lady Bledisloe, who will be present, was received from the exservicemen of the Legion of Frontiersmen, and was accepted with thanks. It was reported that a visit to the “doss-house” had showed that 50 per cent, of the men at the shelter on the night of the visit were returned men. and all showed a willingness to obtain work in the country. Tho secretary reported that at the present sitting of the Appeal Board in Auckland, whicli commenced early in March, and concludes this week, the association had assisted in 67 cases, of which 11 were dismissed, eight deferred. and 48 upheld. The secretary stated that their Excellencies had consented to be present at the ex-servicemen’s annual social, to be held next Thursday. It was decided to make a donation toward the luncheon to King’s Empire Veterans at the Town Hall on June
