MAN FINED FOR ASSAULT

TROUBLE OVER BILLIARDS From Our Oicn Correspondent PUKEKOHE, Wednesday. A disturbance in a billiards room at Te Kauwhata on March 8, led to W. E. Griffen being charged today with assault and with using obscene language. Evidence was given by witnesses that defendant was under the influence of liquor and picked a quarrel with the proprietor, when a game of pool was about to commence. He used obscene language. When struck by Griffen complainant hit back. . Griffen stated the saloon proprietor was. the aggressor. He was struck by one of the group. The magistrate, Mr. F. H. Levien, considered Griffen to blame. He was fined £2 on the assault charge, being conflicted and ordered to pay costs for using obscene language.
