INCREASED HOSPITAL LEVY
ONE TREE HILL PROTESTS Strong exception was taken by the One Tree Hill Borough Council, at its first meeting last evening, to the increase in the Hospital Board’s levy for the year 1930-31 from £2,902 to £3,874. This would mean an increase in the levy to ratepaj-ers from 4Jd to 6d for that item alone. Crs. R. G. Clark and C. L. SlyfleJd were appointed to represent the council at a meeting of local body delegates in protest against the general increase in hospital charges. In the One Tree Hill Borough estimates for the year 1930-31, however, this increase in rates iis more than set off by a decrease in the general rate, which is reduced from Is 4d to Is 2d. The rates in the main portion of the borough will be reduced by Id in the £, and in addition the sanitary charge will be 5s lower on each property. The only part of the borough which will i\ot be reduced is the unsewered area, where.the rate will be the same as last year. The rates proposed to be levied will produce a total of £24,731, equal to an average rate over the whole borough of 3s 1 4-5 d in the £, against 3s 3d last year. The total revenue from all sources will amount to £34,96S against £33,510 last year, the principal item of increase being £B4O. by way of the borough’s share of the petrol tax. Estimated receipts for this yerr are £14,794, and pavments are expected to total £15,121.' The consolidated rate of 2s 5d over the whole district is added to in special areas, but in all special areas the levies are less than last year’s. The average rate over the whole borough is 3s 1 4-sd.
