BACK-BENCHERS DESERT ON CRUCIAL VOTE UNEMPLOYMENT DISCUSSED LONDON .Tuesday. In the debate in the House of Commons on unemployment Mr. D. Kirkwood, Labour member for Dumbarton, criticised the Government for not' adequately meeting the unemployment situation. An amendment to reduce the vole for the Department of Labour was rejected by 229 votes to 209. The Clydeside group of Labour members and also Messrs. Oliver Baldwin (Dudley), W. J. Brown (Wolverhampton West), J. Beckett (Camberwell), A. Fenner Brockway (Leyton East), Miss Jennie Lee (Lanarkshire North), and Mr. E. F. Wise (Leicester East), all Labour members, abstained from voting. i
