HEART FAILURE
GIRL DIES DURING OPERATION VERDICT AT INQUEST A verdict of heart failure was returned by the coroner, Mr. F. K. Hunt S.M. this morning, when an inquest was held concerning the death of Noelene Mary Rowett Heerdegan. who d'ed while undergoing an operation at the Auckland Hospital yesterday. The body was identified by Frederick Heerdegan, a farmer, of Dargavi lie. Deceased was his daughter, witness said. She was a single girl, aged jq and had lived with witness. She had been suffering for about 12 months with a goitre, and was sent to the Auckland Hospital from the Northern Wairoa Hospital. Apart from the goitre, her general health was good. Dr? H. L. Gould, assistant-medical superintendent, said Miss Heerdegan bad been admitted to the Auckland Hospital on Saturday last. She was twice examined before being operated on yesterday, and her heart was found to be apparently normal. Death, however had been due to heart failure while under an anaesthetic. The doctor - dded that 7,000 anaesthetics had been administered at the Auckland Hospital last year, and there had been no deaths.
