DILWORTH SCHOOL
DESIGN FOR NEW BUILDINGS A site, consisting of 130 acres of land lias been secured at Wiri, Mani - rewa, for the building of the new Diiworth School. The Dil worth Trust Hoard has decided to bold a competition for the best architectural desigr and Professor G. Knight, professor of architecture at the Auckland University College, has been retained as adviser. This information is contained in the annual report of the Dilworth Trust Board. During the past year the school has been full with 130 boys in residence At the end of the financial year the school had one boy in the sixth form at the Auckland Grammar School ar.d three in fifth forms, while there a:-** -8 in the secondary department of the school. This number enabled the board to claim inspection by the Department of Education and the school lias been granted provisional registration, trhich means that the boys in the secondary department are now on the same fooling as those in other registered school*. During. the year the board lias inquired into the circumstances of 70 applications. Eleven new boys were admitted during the last 12 month* Of the 130 boys in residence. 7 wcr.* orphans; 76 had lost one parent, and the remainder had both parents aliv* but in straitened circumstances. There is a waiting list of 78 applications fc be dealt with as soon as varancie* occur. The yearly accounts herewith show funds accumulated for the purpose of building the new school. From the preliminary estimates alreadv given by its architectural adviser, the board realises that very careful consideration will have to he given to the financing of the building scheme, having in view a school worthy of the founder, and at the same time keeping within the limits of its present anil fiumt resources.
