WATER FOR MT. WELLINGTON

ENGINEER EXPLAINS SCHEMES Details in connection with the proposed water reticulations scheme for the Mount Wellington Road Board district -were discussed at a public meeting of ratepayers held in the Panmure Public Hall last evening. Mr. W. Gollan, chairman of the Mount Wellington Road Board, and Mr. E. V. Blake, engineer, explained the relative cost of obtaining water from the underground sources and from the Auckland City Council supply. The cost of the water scheme from the city supply was estimated at £20,000, and from the local underground supply £28,000, and it was doubtful if the Local Government Loans Board would agree to the latter scheme. It was explained that in addition to the water mains necessary uflder both schemes, that plant and purchase of the necessary land under the local scheme accounted for the extra cost. The Health. Department had stated that it might not sanction the use of water from that source..

A resolution was carried requesting the board to proceed with the scheme of procuring water from the City. A poll of ratepayers on the question will be taken as soon as the Loans Board gives its consent to the proposal.
