SIX MONTHS AT SEA
BARQUE OLIVEBANK NOW AT MELBOURNE BECALMED ON WAY OUT Reed. 11.5 a.m. MELBOURNE, Today. After a voyage of 156 days from a Baltic port to Melbourne with a cargo of lumber, the Finnish barque Olivebank has reached Port Phillip. The barque Olivebank left Sweden for Australia six months ago and after being reported north of the Equator in December, disappeared until a few days ago. when Captain A. Anderson, of the Norwegian motor-ship Tancred, which arrived at Melbourne on May 7 from Europe, reported that the barque, retarded by intermittent calms and contrary winds, had taken more than 90 days to reach the Line from Sundsvall, a port on the Gulf of Bothnia. The vessel cleared that port on November 7 last year for Melbourne, and was last heard of when spoken at sea on March 8, since when fears for her safety have been entertained. She is a ship of 2,795 tons gross register, and is commanded by Captain K. O. Troberg. She visited the Port of Auckland some time ago. Captain Anderson said that the Tancred’s voyage from Europe was the calmest he had experienced in his nautical career. He thought the Olivebank would probably not arrive at Melbourne until late this month.
