His Excellency the Governor-General visited the Southdown freezing works at Westfield this morning. On May 29 their Excellencies will hold an afternoon reception at Government House, and on June 3 they will give a ball in honour of the birthday of his Majesty the King. Her Excellency Lady Bledisloe will attend a reception given in her honour bv the women’s organisations of Auckland at the Town Hall. On Thursday afternoon her Excellency will attend the annual reunion of the Women’s National Reserve at the Y.W.C.A. Lady Bledisloe and party will also attend the performance of the Royal Auckland Choir in the evening. Dr. S. K. Phillips will leave for Wellington this evening. Mr. L. Frazer, of Wellington, was a passenger by the Limited today. Mr. R. M. Falconer, of Dunedin, arrived in Auckland by the Limited express this morning. Miss Denton-Smith, of Sydney, arrived by the Maunganui this morning on a holiday visit to New Zealand. Mr. G. C. Munns, M.P< for Roskill, ' who returned from Gisborne last evening, will leave for Wellington this evening. Judge H. Carr, of the Native Land Court, Gisborne, has left for Rarotonga, where he is to relieve Judge Ayson, while the latter Is on extended holiday leave. Mrs. Lee Cowie, the well-known temperance worker, is leaving to reside in Honolulu. 111-health is the cause of her leaving Auckland. Mr. J. A. Jamieson, of Te Puke, was this morning admitted as a solicitor to the Supreme Court of New Zealand by his Honour, Mr. Justice Herdman, on the motion of Mr. J. C. Dromgool. Sir Henry Buckleton, general manager of the Bank of New Zealand, accompanied by Lady Buckleton, returned to Wellington by the Makura yesterday after a visit to Sydney. Mr. R. D. Holt, senior partner in the firm of Alfred Holt and Company, shipowners, who has been on a visit to Australia, arrived at Wellington from Sydney yesterday by the Makura. He was accompanied by his wife and two daughters. Mr. S. R. B. Cooke, a graduate of the Otago University, holder of a Thnmes School of Mines scholarship, has won his science degree in metallurgy, and the Carnegie Institute of Technology at Pittsburg has granted him a fellowship for two years, so that he can secure his doctor’s degree. Mr. Albert Spencer, president of the Auckland Employers’ Association, and Mr. \V. D. Holgate left for Wellington last evening to attend a meeting of the executive of the Employers’ Federation.
