FURTHER £IO,OOO LOAN
DRAINAGE AT MOUNT EDEN Notice that sanction has been given for the raising of a £IO,OOO supplementary drainage and sewerage loan for a term of 36A years at 5£ per cent, with an additional one per cent, for sinking fund, was received at a meeting of the Mount Eden Borough Council last evening. This will enable the joining of the two big schemes which have just been completed in Peary Road and Kensington Avenue. A total of £ 30,000 was spent in sewerage works last year. An increase of £592 has been made in the Auckland Hospital Board’s levy for the year, a total of £6,877 7s Bd. This brings the total rates of the council up to 5d in the £. Last year’s levy was £3OO less than that of the year before. A sum of £4O was received from the Returned Soldiers’ Association to be used in providing work for unemployed ex-soldiers only. When a request was received from the Auckland Harbour Bridge Association for a donation toward its funds, which have been depleted through the cost of the recent Royal Commission, it was recommended that consideration be deferred. “For 20 years?” asked a councillor. “We hope to see the bridge erected inside 10 years,” retorted the Mayor. Building permits valued at £2,641 were authorised last month, the only house included in this total being valued at £1,245.
