FRENCH FLEET

SOUTHERN JUMPER SHOWS BIG PROMISE WINNER AT INVERCARGILL There is reason to anticipate that French Fleet, winner of the Invercargill Steeplechase at the S.lt.C. winter meeting on Thursday, will develop into an enduring, if not valuable ’chaser, as he is descended from a very old Southland family that has been responsible for many consistent winners, although the best of the bunch did not aspire to the highest class. He is a son of the well-bred imported English horse, Fleetham, from Fibrona. by De la Key—Red Start, by Casket —Red Riding Hood, by Le Loup —Lass o’ the Hills, by Talk o’ the Hill —Miss Flatcatcher, by Flatcatclier — Polly Peachum, and thus from the Red Start mare Dr. J. E. Rogers, of Gore, bred Cannon King, Fibrona, Neuroma, Good Start, Red Pal. Red Admiral and Soldier’s Fancy, all more or less useful, so French Fleet may carry on the traditions of the tribe. He is in good hands with Mr. W. McCarthy, of South Hillend, and with the lads of the Langford family to select from as his pilot he may and should win again between the flags—Southland “Time*."
