ART UNION WINNER EXPLAINS BOUGHT TWO TICKETS Press Association INVERCARGILL, Today. The Avinner of the £2,000 first prize in the Aviation Art Union is Mr. Douglas . H. Scandrett, a Avell-knoAA'n land and commission agent, Avho purchased tAvo tickets. Mr. Scandrett said that the purchase Avas almost an accident. He had passed the ticket seller e\ r ery day and had heard him shouting about his wares, but had no intention of buying. One morning, as he passed the seller on the street, it occurred to him that he had two half-crowns in his pocket and he invested them in two tickets.

MANY FROM WELLINGTON Press Association WELLINGTON, Sunday. The art union to raise funds for the Wellington and Wairarapa Aero Clubs Avas draAvn yesterday in the ToAvn Hall concert chamber, under police supervision. There was a large number of people present to witness the drawing. Auckland holders of tickets had little luck except as regards the smaller prizes. Following are the winners of the principal prizes:—• D. M. Scandrett, Invercargill, £ 2,000. Miss W. J. Braien, Southland, £SOO. j R. V. Svenson, Timber Bay. Dannevirke, £250. The four prizes of £IOO each went to Alex Scott, care PlailAvay Advertising Office, Wellington: Rogers, Nireaha, Eketahuna; Miss F. B. Ash, High Street, Dannevirke; and F. J. Richardson, Belmont Road, Lower Hutt. OTHER SUBSTANTIAL PRIZES Four prizes of £SO each were Avon by Miss Dinnis Davy, St. Clair, Dunedin: J. Doody, Porangahau, Hawke’s Bay: A. Williams, Levin; and E. A. Collison, Napier. There Avere four prizes of £25 each. Avhich Avere Avon by the following:—Master Alan Singer, Kilbirnie, Wellington: Miss D. Petherick, Newtown, Wellington: James B. Carr, Waitara: and Mr. Evan Baxter, Whakatane. Each ticket bore a letter and five figures. Six men were told off, each with a bag containing marbles. One of the bags contained marbles bearing as many letters of the alphabet as the divisions into which the tickets had been divided, such as A, B, C, D, etc. The other five bags each contained 10 marbles, bearing numbers from 1 to 0. The six men sat at a long table. The drawer took a marble from the bag of letters and called out the result, which tvas recorded by another official. The drawer then passed along the row, taking a marble from each bag and calling the figure. Not until he had taken a marble from the last bag could i the numbet be known.
