At May 1 the average level of retail prices of commodities was approximately 55 per cent, above that of July, 1914, as compared with 57 per cent, a month ago, and G 1 per cent, a year ago. The fall in the general percentage
of increase since April 1 was largely due to reductions in the prices of butter, milk and coal.
The cost of living is shown by this figure to lower now than at any time sined October, 1916.
