DIPHTHERIA OUTBREAK

ANOTHER CASE REPORTED CHILDREN AT POKENO An additional case of diphtheria has occurred in connection with the outbreak of the disease among schoolchildren at Pokeno. Seven cases have now been admitted to Auckland Hospital and health authorities are paying close attention to cases of suspects which have been reported. Normally the school would have resumed. after the holidays next Monday, but when the children assemble all will be examined and swabs will be taken, .'The children will then be sent to their homes and if the tests prove satisfactory the school will reopen on Wednesday. About 67 children attend the school and it is estimated that there are 23 contact cases who will have to be attended to by the department.
