The Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, was a guest of members of the Northern Club at dinner last evening. Sir Carrick Robertson presided over a large attendance. The Kt. Hon. J. G. Coates, Leader of the Opposition, arrived in Auckland last evening and is staying at the Grand Hotel. Professor Arnold Wall, of Canterbury College, is visiting Auckland. Mr. A. E. Davy has returned to Wellington from Auckland. Mr. J- Lochhead was re-elected chairman at the annual meeting of the Tauranga Power Board yesterday. Dr. F. J. Rayner returned to Auckland by the Limited express this morning. Commissioner Cunningham, head of the Salvation Army in New Zealand, arrived by the express today. Sir George Elliot was a passenger to Auckland by the Limited express this morning. Mr. D. Rodie, commercial manager Xew Zealand Railways, is seriously ill in Wellington. The Rev. Dr. C. H. Laws, principal of the Methodist Theological College in Auckland, left for Wellington last evening. Archdeacon Holbrook. of Grey Lynn, returned to Auckland by the Limited express today from Palmerston North. Mr. Arthur Marshall has been appointed to the position of Controller of Savings Banks and Accounts in the P. and T. Department in succession to Mr. H. D. Edwards. Archdeacon Hawkins has been appointed vicar of the parochial district of Howick, by the board of nomination for the Diocese of Auckland, in succession to the late Canon H. Mason. Mr. Eric Smart, 8.E.. who has been engaged on the Auckland-Westfield deviation and waterfront works by the Public Works Department, has received notice of his ti'ansfer to the South Island Main Trunk railway works. Mr. E. H. R. Evans, manager of the Whangarei branch of the Bank of New South Wales for 10 years, who has been promoted to the Hawera branch, was presented with a well-filled wallet as a mark of appreciation at a farewell function yesterday.—P.A.
