Graceful Tribute to John Kirby
Place in London Tiieatre
A graceful tribute to the memory of John Kirby, tjte New Zealand com edian, who died lately in London when he [had established himself in popu lar /favour, is published by the London “Era’;—
‘‘There has been an unprecedented number of deaths among theatrica people in the last few weeks,” says th< journal, ‘‘but perhaps the -saddest is that of John Kirby.
"Kirby was not only a delightful comedian, but a great-hearted, companionable man. He was only 36, and I remember the great hit he made when he appeared in the ‘London Revue’ at the Lyceum. He had come from Australia, and his portrait of a London taximau was vividly near the >eal thing, a keenly observed and highly humorous sketch. “ ‘Silver Wings’ suffers a severe loss h? his death, and his particular niche in the London Theatre will not be fasy to fill. He had a host of friends in the profession and outside.”
