PAPAKURA ORPHANS’ CLUB
The Papakura Orphans’ Club held its official opening of the season last evening, when there was a very large attendance of members and visitors, including visitors from the Auckland, Onehunga, Otaliuliu, -Pukekohe, Tamaki and Devonport clubs. The president, Bro. W. K. Francis, announced that 20 new members had been enrolled, and as very few resignations had been received the Papakura Club was likely to hold this season the distinction of being the largest club, next to the Auckland Club, in the Auckland Province.
The official visitors -were the Past President Bro. E. Casey, Secretary Bro. Dunlop and several members of tho Auckland Orphans’ Club, who provided tlie major part of the programme.
The following artists provided a, most attractive programme: Bros. D. Black, R. Gibbons, Max Grierson, R. Schellum, C. Francis, C. Suisted, Joe Smith - son, his two sons, Dan Flood and Chedwin. A feature of the evening was the playing of the orchestra, under Bro. L. Hopper.”*
