WORK FOR UNEMPLOYED
PROPOSALS IN WELLINGTON BUILDINGS FOR GOVERNMENT Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. The erection of a building to house the Government departments now occupying private premises in Wellington, the completion of the remaining half of Parliament Buildings, and the demolition of the Mount Cook barracks in readiness for the new museum and art gallery, were suggested as possible schemes for providing work for the unemployed by a deputation headed by local M.P.’ss, which waited on the Deputy-Leader of the Government and the Minister of Public Works yesterday.
Mr. Forbes, in his reply, stated that there were 679 men registered in Wellington, and arrangements were being made to place 300 of them. I-Ie promised to arrange a conference with district and local bodies, and to endeavour to arrange a comprehensive scheme for meeting the situation.
