COUNTRY’S POSSIBILITIES
SUSTAINING CONFIDENCE PART OF ESTATE VALUERS The responsibility of real estate valuers and the part they could play ill helping to sustain confidence in the country, was outlined by Mr. C. F. Bennett at the annual meeting of the Auckland Real Estate Institute last evening. Mr. Bennett said that great difficulties surrounded the valuer at the present time. Although in some cases it was almost impossible to sell property, it would bo absurd to say it had no value. If a mortgagee approached a valuer, the valuer should nominate a reasonable value and disregard the possibility of a sal© or resultant fee. The valuer had a great and a serious responsibility. During a world tour of 25 countries, Mr. Bennett said be studied values carefully and was convinced that values in New Zealand were the best and most stable in the world. A leaflet published in Auckland had made comparisons with Great Britain, the United States of America, Australia and New Zealand, and had shown that the purchasing power per capita of the population of New' Zealand was tne greatest of all four countries. The productivity of New Zealand had oeen commented on by all visitors to the country.
Land valuers should show confidence in the country’s future, said Mr. Bennett “We have a duty to keep values at their proper level. Our difficulties are so little compared with those of our forefathers that we would be weaklings if w'e were to admit that our country lias not as great possibilities in front of it as it ever had.”
