WATERFRONT SLUMS

PRINCE OF WALES PLEADS FOR BRITISH SEAMEN TRIBUTE TO MISSION British Official Wireless RUGBY, Wednesday. The Prince of Wales today made his first appearance in public since his return from Africa, when, as Master of the Merchant Navy and Fishing Fleets, he presided at the annual meeting of the Missions to Seamen. His Royal Highness was received by a guard of honour consisting of cadets from the training ship Worcester. He said that in his travels in the last 10 or 12 years he had seen more than most people the need for the kind of society the mission provided. British sailors needed help not on the deep waters of the ocean where they were past-masters, but in the crowded slum life in the harbours they visited.
