McCONACHY IS BACK

ARRIVAL IN SYDNEY SYDNEY, Thursday. The New Zealand billiard player Clark McConachy has arrived in Sydney. Referring to his unpleasantness at Manchester with the Englsh player, Willie Smith, the New Zealander said the magistrate, in commenting on Smith’s charge of assault, remarked that the matter should never have come before the Court and the dispute was not creditable to British sport. McConachy says he considers that the fact that old cloth was on the table with a hole at the spot mark and that unwashed balls of varying measurements were used tended to put him off bis game. When he drew attention to these matters the reply was that nothing could be done as the orders had come from Smith. In McConachy’s opinion Joe Davis is England’s best player. He says the younger school is definitely coming into its own. After a brief visit to New Zealand McConachy will return to Sydney, where he will play matches with Walter Lindrum. After that the two players will go to South Africa to carry out a month’s contract and thence to England for a six months’ engagement under conditions which will not prevent them competing in the world’s championship next year.
