VICTORIA, DEVONPORT
“Embarrassing Moments,” one of the brightest and breeziest of Reginald Denny’s popular comedies, is now at the Victoria Theatre, Devonport. This is an intriguing tale of “companionate marriage” and recounts the trials experienced by a young “bride” in making her old-fashioned family understand that she is “modern.” It is all so wittily related that the story is most enjoyable from end to end. A full programme of shorter talkie items will also be shown.
The historic surrender of the Southern forces to those of the Northern forms one of the highlights in “Only the Brave,” a Civil War adventure talkie, starring Ga.ry Cooper. Mary Brian plays the feminine lead.
A “breakaway” flivver that sheds fenders, lamps, windshield and even its engine parts but still runs, is the mechanical achievement of comedy constructionists at the Metro-Gold wynMayer studio. The freak car makes its debut in “Good News,” providing an hilarious scene with Bessie Love, Gus Shy and Delmar Laves.
