Wanganui Fixture Ending Tomorrow

Review of the Fields

With excellent acceptances received, the concluding day’s racing at Wanganui tomorrow promises to be every bit as thrilling as on the opening day. The first event tomorrow is that for the hack hurdlers, and over the mile and a-half there is sure to be a hectic pace set. Airforce was most unlucky yesterday, and others that will be in demand are Royal Acre, Vivo, Whenuanui, Whisogne and Town Bird. The middle-distance hack fiat candidates will have their opportunity in the Balgownie Hack, run over a mile and a distance, so some claim to stamina will be a necessity. Werata and Latakia are stayers, and Brilliant Light, unlucky yesterday, may see it out. Auctioneer will be more at home, and General Gas is a stayer. Werata promises to be the hardest horse to beat. The Big Hurdles

A field of seven will contest the May Hurdles, run over a mile and three-quarters. Elicit will be better suited, and so will Prince Lu. but the latter might be feeling the effects of yesterday's struggle, and he does not always run two good races on end. Aurora Borealis has gone up a stone and is therefore rather nicely treated, for she won the Century Hurdles yesterday with ridiculous ease. Royal Acre is preferred here to the hack event, and so is Whenuanui, both having comparatively light imposts. Vivo too may relish the drop. Perle de Leon is a genuine sticker, and he may trouble those above him. Beaumont completes the field, and he is not without a chance. There may be only one dividend in this race, and those likely to bo striving for it are Elicit, Prince Lu, Aurora Borealis and Perle de Leon. If reserved Royal Acre may be a danger.

The Steeplechase Eight is the main in the Grandstand Steeplechase. run over 2h miles. Brigadier Bill is credited with going a fairly good race yesterday. It is now Airtight’s turn, for he has run three thirds in succession. Red Bank

jumped magnificently yesterday, winning at his first attempt over country. As a hurdler Red Bank was regarded as a non-stayer, but he won his li f c steeplechase at the right end of tne two miles. WaitaUnahu now meets Red Bank at an advantage of 111 b. and it has been a peculiar feature of the

Taranaki horse's jumping record that he races bc&t under a light weight* to morrow he has but 9.87 Kowhatu i* . as yet a novice, and he led in Wanganui Steeplechase for over tw--1 miles. Calithe is a. good jumper and Flying Swift and Maidos have not vet been seen at their best. The iss’ ; appears to rest between Waitaunah-7 Red Bank and Airtight. '*• The Handicap There are 16 engaged in the Erupir* Handicap, with the scale of weights • little higher than in yesterday’s nollv Handicap. Silvermine was heavily backed and decisively beaten at Hawera last Saturday, form which was obviously not his best. Both Th* Swell and Admiral Drake will be suited by the shorter journey, and ths latter went a particularly good race yesterday. Cashier was into all the : trouble going in the Connolly Handicap, and it was left to his little-fancied stable-mate, High Falutin'. to pay a dividend. Atliolspear will be raci»-» over his pet distance after several futile attempts to win sprints. Equit- | ant w ill not stay, and Mountain Heath was again credited with another fine , race yesterday. On the other side of the handicap those that appeal most are Austerity, Flying Juliet and Llyn Du. Those that appear to have the best j claims for tomorrow are Admiral Drake. The Swell. Silvermine. Cashier, I Atliolspear and High Falutin'. The Sprinters

In the hack sprint, the Farewell Hack, there are several horses chances must bo respected, them being Blue Paper. Valstreet, Hunting Boy, Brilliant Light (if reserved), Tahoma, Ben Hur. Treasury, Portray and Coon Song, and any one of these might score. It should be \ great betting race. The open sprint, the Winter Oat>, is another tough problem, every bit as difficult to fathom as on the opening day. Half a dozen that are liked ar« Laughing Prince, Havering, Roy 1 Parade, Freehold. Paleta and Potoaform. It is remarkable that L. G. Morris’s stable has three candidates— Laughing Prince. Freehold (whose Feilding form was excellent) and Equitant, and they all race in different interests. Horses that promise to be keenly supported are the following:—■ Rata Hack Hurdles: AIRFORCE WHISOGNE Balgownie Hack Handicap: WERATA BRILLIANT LIGHT May Hurdles Handicap: AURORA BOREALIS ELICIT Grandstand Steeplechase: WAITAU NAHA RED BANK Empire Handicap: THE SWELL ADMIRAL DRAKE Farewell Hack Handicap:TREASURY VALSTREET Winter Oaks Handicap: FREEHOLD ROYAL PARADE
