DEVONPORT BOROUGH

MEETING Of COUNCIL Devonport s quota of th« Poppy Day j collection will be £4O. The sum collected in the borough was £ 80. The £4O will be subsidised £ for £ by the borough and used for unemployment relief work on Queen’s Parade. This was resolved last night at the meeting of the Devonport Borough Council. The Melrose Park Tennis Club was granted permission to spend £3OO on putting down hard surface courts on the park. The club was granted the same tenure of occupation as Vauxhall and Ngataringa tennis clubs have in their respective areas. Mr. Aldridge’s place on the North Shore Water Board will be taken by Mr. J. Hislop, and his seat on the North Shore Motor Omnibus Licensing Authority by Mr. K. Ellisdon. The council will confer with the Rugby Union regarding the lease of land at Narrow Neck which the union will develop into playing fields. A deputation from Devonport Croquet Club, for whom Mrs. Spicer was spokeswoman, complained that storm water from Vauxhall Road flooded the croquet lawns to a depth of six inches. The engineer said he had come to the conclusion that there must be a blockage in the storm water drainage system beyond the croquet lawns and an extensive examination of the system would have to be -made. After the council meeting the councillors entertained Mr. Aldridge in the Windsor Tea Rooms.
